The PBR is 31 feet in length, 11 feet wide and weighs
17,000 pounds.
Driven by two 6V53 Detroit Diesel engines which drive water-jet pumps
instead
of propellers, the PBR is capable of speeds in excess of 30 knots in
less
than 15 inches of water. A unique feature of the PBR is its
ability
to stop from full speed in about one boat length by reversing the pump
discharge. It is manned by a crew of five, with the primary
mission
of riverine patrol and interdiction. Secondary missions include
Special
Operations Forces (SOF) insertion, extraction and support, Search and
Rescue,
and assault boat support.
